Artist's Comments

Another face study. This is that famous photo of Audrey Hepburn cropped down. Don't have reference shot available so cross your fingers and hope I don't get sued.

I have trouble shading a woman's face so I chickened out and picked this uber hard lit image to practice on.

Charcoal on Cranson Bristol - Vellum
3 hours

I got a huge sample of 8.5x11 from a guy who goes to campuses working for Cranson. He gave me this pack that I just recently found so now I have a lot of paper to practice with.

This is great, but the uber shading makes the curve of the face a little flat. I think toward the bottom of the jaw line needs just a little more shading to make the cheek pop out more and look less 2-dimensional.

Still, a wonderful job for sure!

I knew she looked familiar Audrey is defiantly a one of a kind woman and you captured her greatly.

by looking at all your art work I think you're very able to use more difficult photo of a female :)

You are definitely not scared to really push the full capacity of charcoal. What always strikes me with your drawings is how dark you can really work the media. I'm curious to what you have more fun doing when it comes to portraiture? The eye lashes, the brow, and the hair stands out in this radiant style compare to the rest. I really do love this drawing, I think you have captured something quite beautiful. And thumbs up to the cropping.
