Early Game Concept: Jail Cell by Appylon Early Game Concept: Jail Cell by Appylon
This is me speedy brainstorming stuff for a new project. What do you guys think about the brick on the floor. Is the mix of superimposed texture work with an environment like this?

Hey man, This looks awesome. The brick looks like part of the scene, I wouldn't have know it was photo texture if you hadn't said. Don't sweat it. Great piece. The one real critique I would have of this is that it is getting kind of symetrical. It could look like this is the same picture side by side. You could easily fix that though, by changing the length of one of the hanging chains on either the left or right. That way they don not look like a reflection of each other. I'd want to visit this scene if it wasn't a jail!
What do you think?

i like most things about this. I will address the bricks on the floor separately since you wanted critique on those specifically-

I think you should make the perspective on them more extreme, and by that I mean make them scaled smaller horizontally as they get further from the point of view. as it is, they appear to be more of a wall in some places than a flat surface, if you know what I mean.

Your environments are very cool (:
What do you use for brushes and what are their settings? And do you have any tutorials?
Hope it's ok to ask w

Hi thanks for the comment. I do have some tutorials but they are all old. Maybe I can make a newer one at some point. I have some painting tutorials here in my gallery in random places and I have a youtube channel that has some old speed paints from a couple years ago.

For brushes I use a mixture of default ones in Photoshop and I picked out some of my favorite ones from here. www.pandemoniumart.net/brushes…

The bricks on the ground do work really well, however, the wires/ropes (?) in the foreground give a bit of an abandoned factory-feeling instead of a jail cell (the chains are O.K., maybe throw in a few shackles?) : )

Good call on shackles. This is why I need to research things more before I just paint. I needed more props in the scene to sell it. I think I also need to shift over the back a bit to not have the arches be perfectly behind the sunlight. Hopefully parallax can fix some of that though.
